An independent studio, built like a startup

Apsis Pictures makes elevated genre films at contained budgets: strong scripts, recognizable leads, a festival-led release, and a Canadian tax-credit floor under every title. Films that work as films first, and quietly stay with you after.

Founded and run by producer Alex Bogomolov. Two films financed, shot, sold and delivered through this exact machine: on the first, investors got their money back in full; the second is in AMC Theatres. A four-film program is now in development, with "Lookout" as film #1.

The model

Script first Every title clears a selection system before money moves: a written script report, a market read against comparable films, a budget check. Part of it is human judgment, part of it runs on AI. What reaches financing has already passed a high bar.
Cast as a sales decision A recognizable lead is what opens international sales for a small film. We sign the lead before the shoot, not after.
Tax-credit floor Canadian refundable tax credits are paid in cash after an audit of real spend, whatever the box office does. Structuring a budget so that refund carries real weight is a core competence of ours, not an afterthought.
Portfolio, not lottery One film is one bet. A program of films, each with a tax refund already priced into its budget, behaves more like a portfolio. That is why the current raise is four films, not one.

Track record

"Ruthless Bastards" (2025). Action, shot in Vancouver. Released in 40+ countries, with US rights sold before the film was finished. Investors got their money back in full.

"Pitfall" (2026) is a horror-thriller, also shot in Vancouver. Voltage Pictures sold it, and it opened theatrically in the US through AMC Theatres. Screamfest LA and Panic Fest played it first.

Both were the proving run for the model. The program that follows is the same discipline at a higher script and cast tier.

The slate

"Lookout" - folk-horror. In development, shooting 2027, an Oscar-nominated lead attached. Film #1 of the program.

"Móðir" - folk and body horror. In development.

"How High the Moon" - historical romantic mystery thriller. In development.
